Netflix Unveils Splinter Cell: Deathwatch Trailer, Reviving the Beloved Stealth Franchise

The much-awaited animated reimagining of the cherished stealth video game series is finally making progress, as Netflix has unveiled a trailer for the show. The series promises to introduce fans to a fresh narrative while remaining true to its roots.

During the exciting Netflix Geeked Week 2024 Live event, the official trailer for Splinter Cell: Deathwatch was introduced, signifying a crucial achievement in the adaptation process of Ubisoft’s iconic franchise. This initial look showcases the journey of Sam Fisher, a masterful operative, depicted as he descends into water wearing his signature night vision goggles. Although a particular release date has not been confirmed yet communicated, fans can explore the trailer and immerse themselves in a visual treat.

This new series features Liev Schreiber in the role of Sam Fisher, a choice that has excited many fans. While the connection between Splinter Cell: Deathwatch and the larger universe of the video game series remains somewhat ambiguous, interest is certainly piqued by the remarkable animation style already hinted at during a preview in June 2021. The project was initially introduced to audiences in 2020 without a designated title.

Guillaume Dousse and Félicien Colmet-Daage share the directorial reins for Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, with notable writer Derek Kolstad of John Wick fame assuming the role of head writer. Animation studios Sun Creature and Fost contribute their expertise alongside producers Kolstad, Helene Juguet, and Hugo Revon, along with Gerard Guillemot from Ubisoft Film & Television.

Upon its eventual release, Splinter Cell: Deathwatch aims to join Netflix’s expanding library of animated adaptations of video games. This follows in the footsteps of successful titles like Castlevania and Arcane, with further projects in development based on franchises such as Beyond Good & Evil, Assassin’s Creed, and Devil May Cry. A comprehensive list of Netflix's upcoming projects is also available for exploration.

While the animated series prepares to debut, fans of the video game continue to await a new mainline entry, which has been absent for over ten years. However, Ubisoft has announced that a fresh reinterpretation of the classic Splinter Cell is currently under development. As Netflix Geeked Week 2024 progresses, additional announcements from the streaming service can be anticipated.
